Abstract :
Diethylenetriamine anchored on styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer gel acts as both Lewis acid and base, and permits the chromatographic separation of compounds differing in intrinsic properties. This polyamine can interact with polyols and transition metal ions through lone pair electrons, but, when protonated, the ammonium ions formed are capable of binding polyethers and anions. Thus, the separation of anions, cations, polyethers, and polyols is made possible with the same stationary phases modified with polyamine as a single ligand and altering the mobile phase only.
