Determination of branched carbon number distribution of polyacrylate by liquid chromatography

This paper deals with the determination of branched carbon number distribution of polyacrylate by liquid chromatography after hydrolyzing the polyacrylate in basic alcohol solution. The products of hydrolysis are alcohols which can be separated by hot methanol. The long chain alcohols are oxidized in potassium permanganate and sulfuric acid. The long chain fatty acids thus obtained are derivatized by phenacyl bromide in triethylamine solution. The derivatives were determined by liquid chromatography.
