Abstract :
Bubble disengagement after stopping the gas supply is analyzed based on the concept of constant slip velocity; it is compared with the approaches used by previous investigators. The technique has been applied to study the gas density effect (0.17 to 46.6 kg·m–3) on the gas hold-up structure in a bubble column with organic liquids (toluene, ethanol, 1-butanol, decalin) and tap water. With increasing gas density, the large bubble rise velocity decreases; this indicates smaller bubble size. The small bubble hold-up is correlated with the gas and the liquid properties whereas the large bubble hold-up is hardly affected.
