Abstract :
As one of the greenhouse gases, it is essential to reduce CO2 emissions in order to stabilize CO2 levels in the atmosphere while allowing the continued use of fossil fuels. Abatement of CO2 by mineral carbonation has been proposed as one of the most promising methods for CO2 emission control in the flue gas from coalfired power plants. However, little is known about the fundamental characteristics of CO2-mineral reactions. The overall goal of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of the aqueous reactions of CO2 with Mgbearing minerals. Specifically, the focus was on the enhancement of the mineral dissolution.
