Abstract :
Generation of chemiluminescence upon the reaction of tris(2,2′-bipyridine)ruthenium(III) ([Ru(bipy)3]3+) and several active methylene compounds having cyano and carbonyl groups was examined by a postcolumn reaction system of liquid chromatography (LC). Significant chemiluminescence was observed for malonic acid, malondialdehyde, cyanoacetic acid, methyl cyanoacetate and malononitrile. A novel chromatographic method for the determination of these compounds based on the chemiluminescent reaction with [Ru(bipy)3]3+ prepared by on-line electrochemical oxidation was developed. The lowest detection limit of 5.7 pmol in LC was found for malononitrile at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3.
