Application of electrophoresis and related methods, such as western blotting and zymography to the study of some proteins and enzymes Review Article

Electrophoresis and related methods are currently used by laboratories working on proteins. This review focuses on four different applications of acrylamide electrophoresis related to protein study: 1. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with or without SDS (PAGE or SDS-PAGE). 2. Polyacrylamide gels electrofocusing, western blotting and zymography. Basic principles and usual applications to proteins are discussed, then examples selected in different areas of biochemistry and cell biology are presented to underline the interest of these methods at the analytical level.
