The Additional Testing Program (ATP) was designed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to ensure a strict control on chemical residue testing in meat destined for the European Union (EU). This paper summarizes relevant events since 1989 that have resulted in the final acceptance of ATP criteria by the EU.
