Determination of selenium in human blood specimens by electrothermal atomic absorption Review Article

The determination of selenium in serum, plasma and whole blood by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) is reviewed. All steps of the analysis, including sampling, storage, measurement conditions, the use of chemical modifiers, background correction, types of atomiser and furnace temperature programmes have been considered. Calibration methods, accuracy and validation, detection limits and precision are summarised and discussed.
