Abstract :
A capillary zone electrophoresis method is reported for the determination of meso-inositol in a tablet formulation. Separation was carried out in a fused-silica capillary 50.2 cm long (40.2 cm effective length) × 50 μm internal diameter at a potential of 15 kV and 60°C using a 50 mM tetraborate buffer. Detection was by UV absorbance at 195 nm. An internal standard (d-fructose) was used to increase method precision. Aqueous standard and test solutions of tablets (4 g l−1) were hydrodynamically injected at a pressure of 0.0041 MPa for 6 s. Validation tests demonstrated that the method was reliable and rugged for routine use in quality control. Repeatability of relative corrected peak areas meso-inositol/d-fructose was approximately 2% for 10 injections and 10 preparations of test solutions, respectively. Inter-day (10 days) and inter-capillary (two different suppliers) precision was 1.7% for the assay. No influence of day or capillary on the assay was found. Advantages of CE for the purpose of this analysis was the short total analysis time (less than 7 min), the rapid set-up of the instrumentation and the low running cost.
