Abstract :
The research purpose was to assess the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy in cognitive emotion regulation of individuals with attempted suicide. The research employed a randomized empirical study with experimental and control groups. The statistical population included all the individuals with attempted suicide who were listed in the welfare bureaus of Ilam province. Our sample comprised 20 individuals who were randomly assigned to two dialectical behavior therapy group (10 individuals) and control group (10 individuals). The experimental group underwent 16 psychotherapeutic sessions using dialectical behavior therapy model. The subjects in both groups were examined prior and subsequent to the intervention using cognitive emotion regulation scale. A 3-month follow-up was also employed. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and multivariate analysis of variance. Results indicated a significant difference between groups. Put differently, dialectical behavior therapy increased the adaptive cognitive emotion regulation while, decreased the maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation as compared to the control group.
