Abstract :
The research purpose was to predict substance addiction based on metacognitive dimensions and thought suppression. Our statistical society included all the male employees and normal individuals as well as substance addicted individuals who had referred to Faraz and Hamrahan-e Salamat outpatient clinics, out of which a sample of 94 (clinical sample: 48 and normal sample: 46) individuals were selected through convenience sampling. The data gathering tools included White Bear Suppression Inventory and Metacognitive Questionnaire. One-way Anova was employed to analyze the data. Findings indicate that Wilksʹ lambda is 0.49 which can effectively separate the normal group and addicted group. Wilksʹ lambda is significant at 0.01 level and confirms the research hypothesis that the combination of metacognitive dimensions and thought suppression can be good predictors of substance dependence. Moreover, one-way Anova analysis indicates that there is between-group difference with regard to the positive beliefs about worry, negative beliefs concerning uncontrollability and danger, cognitive confidence, beliefs about need to control thoughts, cognitive self-consciousness and thought suppression at 0.01 level.
