Abstract
This research attempts to utilize polymer degradability in modifying electrical properties of poly(l-lactide) (PLLA)/poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/carbon fillers composites. Three kinds of carbon particles, i.e. carbon black, vapor-grown carbon fiber, and carbon nanotube, were compounded with PLLA/PMMA blend, followed by hydrolytic degradation of the composites, resulted in degradation of PLLA molecular chain from the surface of samples, with PMMA and carbon particles remained undegraded. By controlling degradation rate, it was possible to prepare samples with low surface resistivity, yet at the same time exhibited high value of volume resistivity. It was also found that final electrical properties of degraded composites depend on the size and the shape of the fillers.
