Abstract :
By model quantum calculations we show that the Stern–Gerlach effect can occur for a one dimensional electron gas. We propose the spin filter device based upon this effect and describe fabrication of prototype hybrid ferromagnet–semiconductor microstructures. From the low-temperature transport measurements we derive necessary conditions which must be satisfied in order to detect the spin filtering.
