Abstract :
The optical properties of a V-groove quantum wire laser diode are investigated under high magnetic fields (up to View the MathML source) and at low temperature. The lasing and spontaneous emission characteristics are first compared at View the MathML source showing that lasing takes place on the low energy side of the spontaneous emission spectrum. A steady reduction of the threshold current is achieved by increasing the magnetic field from 5 to View the MathML source. These results prove that lasing originates from a population inversion of localized excitons.
