Abstract :
Localized cap states are studied in metallic armchair nanotubes closed by various caps. It is shown that cap states are frequently present in the vicinity of ε=0 (the energy of a carbon π-orbital) associated with first excited conduction band and highest valence band. The corresponding wave function exhibits a power-law dependence on the distance from the cap tip.
