Abstract
A systematic variation of the exciton fine-structure splitting with quantum dot size in single MOCVD-grown self-organized InAs/GaAs quantum dots is observed, ranging from several tens to as much as View the MathML source, thus covering more than one order of magnitude. Piezoelectricity is identified to be the dominant factor governing the observed trend. A change in sign of the fine-structure splitting is reported for the first time, originating from quantum dots with confinement potentials elongated in the View the MathML source and View the MathML source crystal direction, respectively.
