Abstract :
The destructive air pressure waves created by heating from the subsecond thermal expansion of air and vaporization of metallic conductors is referred to as the "thermoacoustic effect" of arcing faults. The simulation method presented here is a tool to enhance preventive strategies targeted to electrical arc induced hazards. The magnitude of the pressure wave from the thermoacoustic expansion of air around an electric arc is expressed using SI units. In this paper computational results, nature of the arc fault, arc fault injuries are discussed.
