Transport of diatomic ions in atomic gases Original Research Article

A classical kinetic theory is presented for the drift and diffusion of diatomic ions in atomic gases under the influence of an electrostatic field. The theory is restricted to non-vibrating ions (rigid rotors) and to electric fields of small and intermediate strengths, where the average energy gained by the ions from the field is insufficient to cause significant vibrational excitation.
