Abstract :
The results presented in this communication demonstrate that the Sn0.86–Sb0.03–Mn0.10–Pt0.01-oxide (SSMPO) coating deposited on a Ti substrate is a promising anode candidate for the electrocatalytic oxidation of organic molecules in aqueous solutions. The coating offers high overpotential for the oxygen evolution reaction, and low surface fouling susceptibility. The electrocatalytic properties of the SSMPO coating were tested in the oxidation of 4-chlorophenol (4CP). The 4CP oxidation reaction was found to be first order with respect to 4CP. The corresponding current-density-dependent apparent reaction rate constants were calculated. This data revealed that the anode maintains its electrocatalytic efficiency with increasing current density. An increase in oxidation temperature was found to have a beneficial effect on the 4CP oxidation rate. The electrocatalytic activity of the coating was found to significantly depend on the transition doping element incorporated in the coating.
