Abstract
Polymer composites with different mechanical properties can be produced from various polymer matrices and reinforcing materials by different plastic molding technologies. Thus numerous combinatorial ways exist for production of polymer composites. Because of this complexity, the elaboration of an evolving knowledge base is necessary for the effective process design of composites with the required properties.
The elaborated model is based on the experimental and expert databases. The experimental database contains the summarized results of our experiments for polymer composite production in the last five years. In the expert database the compatibility relations among the properties are described, based on literature data and on the experts’ opinions. Determined by the appropriate searching criteria, the system generates recommendations for the production of polymer composites with determined properties, from the above described knowledge bases.
Based on the recommendations of the model, composites of similar properties can be produced from different raw materials (polymers and reinforcements) that help to reduce the production costs.
