Abstract :
Nonlinear polarisation rotation is shown experimentally to be an effective process to switch a fibre nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM). If interfering beams have different polarisations, no power imbalance is required. Contrary to standard NOLM designs, the proposed architecture combines high contrast with simultaneously low critical power and low insertion losses.
