Configurations of alcohols obtained from dihydro-O-acetylisophoto-α-santonic lactone

The configurations of the hydroxyl groups of the reduction products of the ketonic group of O-acetylisophoto-α-santonic lactone have been determined by spectroscopy and chemical methods and should be revised to the α and β configurations, for the minor and major alcohol, respectively. The mesylate of the β alcohol yielded readily the disubstituted olefin.
