Synthesis of the C1–C6 subunit of discodermolide from furan

The synthesis of the C1–C6 subunit of the potent antitumor agent discodermolide has been performed using 7-oxanorbornene derivatives, derived from furan, as key intermediates to control the stereochemistry of the incoming functional groups.
