Synthesis and reactivity of a new functionalized and highly pyramidalized alkene containing the bisnoradamantane skeleton

The generation and trapping of the highly pyramidalized 3,7-isopropylidenedioxytricyclo[3.3.0.03,7]oct-1(5)-ene containing ketal functions is reported. Its dimerization followed by a [2+2] retrocycloaddition reaction allows a straightforward access to functionalized polycyclic compounds.
