Abstract :
Flash thermolysis of dibenzyl and diphenyl disulphides at 500°C and 1000°C we investigated. Experiments were conducted under reduced pressure (1.5×10−3 Torr) in a heated horizontal quartz tube. The decomposition products were identified by gas chromatography fitted with a mass spectrophotometer. Dibenzyl disulphide decomposes mainly to elemental sulphur, dibenzyl and stilbene. Diphenyl disulphide decomposes mainly to diphenyl sulphide, phenyl thiol and hydrocarbons. In addition, small amounts of dibenzothiophene, diphenyl trisulphide, elemental sulphur and a few phenyl ring thioethers are formed. Possible explanations the relationship between pyrolysis results of tested disulphides and their load-carrying performance are given.
