Abstract :
The cavitation behavior of metastable Cr–Mn–Ni steel was investigated in a rotating disk machine. The microstructure of the cavitated area was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy. The results of XRD showed that the γ→α phase transformation and ηNi3Ti precipitation had occurred during cavitation testing. Cavitation damage of the material occurred by combined thermal–mechanical fatigue failure. It was deduced that the high-temperature behavior and properties should be taken into account in evaluating the cavitation resistance of such materials.
