Abstract :
Wear induced by debris formation is studied in gross slip wear situations. A well-known aeronautical steel (AFNOR 30NCD16) is studied in similar sliding amplitude and different normal loading conditions. When considering a dynamic wear kinetic analysis, a strong variation of the wear coefficient in relation to the mean pressure is observed. A threshold pressure condition has been defined marking the transition from mild to severe wear. To interpret such a threshold mean pressure condition, an elastoplastic shakedown analysis was considered. Both macro-approach (i.e. smooth surface contact hypothesis) and micro-approach (i.e. rough hard surface model) have been analyzed, taking into account the alternating sliding conditions which characterize fretting loading. The comparison has demonstrated that under dry fretting wear situations, whereas a macro-approach overestimates the mild/severe wear transition, the local approach defined from the Kapoor et al.’s model highly underestimates the experimental high wear pressure transition.
