Abstract
The study presented in this paper concerns the performance results of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) reservoirs arranged in distinct patterns on coated surfaces. The patterns used were such that the load imparted on the coated surface by the pin was never supported by PTFE only but also by the metallic coating. This was achieved by correlating spacing of PTFE reservoirs with diameter of the pin. Results obtained confirm feasibility of the concept of using specially engineered surface to support quite high load in a dry sliding contact.
