Abstract
The synthesis and structural characterization of anthraquinone-based luminescence macrocycles containing sulfur and chlorine is reported. Luminescence is dependent on both electronic contributions of the substituted quinone and structural features of the binding site, which effect the inversion of nπ* and ππ* states. X-ray crystallographic results of different 1,8-oxybis(ethyleneoxyethyleneoxy)-anthracene-9,10-dione structures is also compared.
