Preparation and photoluminescence of p-terphenyl derivatives containing cyano groups

Fifteen p-terphenyls containing alkoxylated backbones with and without cyano groups on the phenyl moieties have been designed and synthesized. The influences of the position and the number of cyano groups on the phenyl moieties as well as the skeleton to the absorption and emission spectra both, in solution and in solid state of these new p-terphenyls are discussed.
