Abstract
2-Aminoethanol facilitated the alkynylation of aryl halides (Sonogashira reaction) under palladium/charcoal–copper catalysis in water affording a mild and practical method for the synthesis of arylalkynes. A variety of terminal alkynes were coupled with aryl iodides and bromides possessing no hydrophilic functional groups to give the coupled products in good to excellent yields.
