Stereoselective formal synthesis of (−)-centrolobine

Stereoselective formal synthesis of (−)-centrolobine was achieved from naturally occurring l-(+)-tartaric acid, employing a facile FeCl3 mediated stereoselective formation of a tetrahydropyran as the key step.
