PRESSURE EXERTED ON THE ELASTIC HALF-SPACE OF A DIE WHOSE SHAPE IS APPROXIMATED BY AN ELLIPTIC PARABOLOID

The problem of one-sided frictionless contact is analyzed under the assumption that the contact region is nearly elliptical. An asymptotic correction to the Hertz solution is constructed. The contact pressure asymptotics is written in explicit form, and the position of the unknown-in-advance contact region boundary is determined.
