Abstract
The problem is solved using two schemes of the optical polarization method: light transmission through clear models made of polyuretbane SKU-6 and gluing of photoelastic coatings to the surface of metallic elements. The stress and strain concentration factors are determined for tensile rubber strips with oblique cracks and steel specimens with cutouts of various shape. The specimens were loaded to failure, the maximum deformations reaching 200% of the elongations.
