Abstract
Taking PEEK as a reference, the wear performance of several kinds of high performance polymers were compared under different pv levels, including (1) polyetheretherketone (PEEK), (2) polybenzimidazole (PBI), and (3) two grades of polyparaphenylene (PPP). It was found that the PPPs, having a very high mechanical stability at room temperature, showed relatively poor wear resistance compared to PEEK. On the other hand, PBI exhibited the lowest wear rate, which can be ascribed to its high heat resistance and mechanical property retention, even under high temperatures.
