Abstract :
In the framework of the theory of random quantities, we obtain for an element of circular cross section that is loaded by an eccentric tensile force the algebraic equation for calculating the mathematical expectation of the diameter based on the required magnitude of the normative index of the static reliability model - the no-failure probability. We study the dependence of the reliability of the element on the scatter of the loads and the strength parameters. Recommendations are developed that relate to the specification of the reliability of the element as a function of the ratio of the costs of its planned or emergency replacement
