Abstract :
We present the basic principles of the theory of the erosive action of cavitation, which are in the general case based on the kinetic thermoactivation approach (in the damagesensitive stage) and on the concept of fatigue damage of the thin surface layers of the materials with account for the random nature of the external repetitive dynamic action on the various scale levels that are created as a function of the density of the deformation power flow that is supplied and the critical value of this density. We present the results of the calculation of the duration of the cavitation/erosion accumulation (incubation) period for the case of water flowing over a wing profile.
