DETERMINING THE LOCALLY-NONUNIFORM RESIDUAL-STRESS FIELDS IN PLANE PARTS BY THE SECTIONING METHOD

We present an experimental/theoretical method for studying the locally-nonuniform residual-stress fields near the boundaries of plane parts. It is based on sectioning the part, obtaining the experimental information (the displacement or deformation fields), and the subsequent analysis of this information to determine the distribution of the residual stresses along the line of sectioning* Numerical experiments are performed that make it possible to determine the requirements on the volume and accuracy of the experimental information that is necessary for reliable determination of the residual stresses.
