GROWTH OF SURFACE FATIGUE CRACKS FROM STRESS CONCENTRATORS

We perform the numerical modeling of the growth of corner fatigue cracks from a stress concentrator, consisting of a circular hole in a plate, on the basis of multiparameter fracture mechanics and microdamage mechanics. We study the influence of the initial dimensions of the crack and the concentrator dimensions on the crack growth rate, the number of cycles to failure, and the ratio of the crack dimensions. The obtained relations are compared with the experimental data and the modeling results.
