Abstract :
An asymmetric synthesis of an orthogonally protected (gamma)-carboxy-L-glutamic acid (L-Gla) is developed featuring a key proline-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation between Garner’s aldehyde and Meldrum’s acid.
