Abstract :
The present study represents an experience to examine the effect of synchronous and asynchronous script presentation on Iranian second language learners’ listening comprehension. To reach this aim, 30 subjects at an english institute in Qazvin, Iran, were chosen out of 50 subjects through an IELTS listening test. The material was an english movie with American accent, named Apollo13. Subjects were divided into two groups: Group one watched the movie with synchronous script while group two watched the movie with asynchronous script. The script was presented before watching movie to them. After each session, a comprehension test was administered to each group. To compare the participantsʹ listening comprehension, a t-test was run. The outcomes showed that the subjects who received the script synchronously outperformed significantly the second group. The findings of the present study can have theoretical and practical implications for both teachers and learners in listening comprehension programs.
