Mass spectrometric studies have shown that contact-arc vaporization of polytetrafluoroethylene-containing graphite rods leads to the formation of mainly trifluoromethylated [60]-fullerenes of the general formula C60(CF3)nHm, where n = 1–8 and m = 0–9. Similar results were achieved by using sodium trifluoroacetate/graphite composite rods.
