Abstract :
An equation for determining the mathematical expectation of the diameter of an element for a given no-failure probability is derived on the basis of the deterministic condition of flexural stiffness for the initial variables distributed in the normal law. A formula for calculating the required no-failure probability of an element as a function of the ratio of the costs of its scheduled and emergency replacement, is proposed.
