Abstract :
Photoemission spectra of a C84 film (mixture of two main isomers) have been measured and analyzed in the photon energy range from 13.4 to 129.3 eV. The spectral intensities oscillate distinctly in the whole energy region. We quantitatively calculated the intensities of three lowest-binding-energy features (denoted by A–C). The A/B intensity ratios and the oscillatory behavior for individual features are reported. On the basis of the spherical symmetric approximation, we raise a very simple method to elucidate the sizes of fullerenes from the oscillation data. This method is tested for C84, C70 and C60. This analysis shows that oscillation cross-section data in a limited photon energy range (smaller than 100 eV) are needed only to give satisfactory results of the molecular diameters.
