Magnetospheric substorm studies using balloons Original Research Article

A brief review is given on the position of scientific ballooning in front of the present understanding of substorm physics, and of the main experimental difficulties which slow down progress in substorm studies. It is shown that the use of balloons may considerably improve the situation.
