Simultaneous measurement of atomic oxygen and ozone in the upper stratosphere Original Research Article

We present number densities of O(3P) and O3 in the upper stratosphere(38–44km) measured onboard a plastic balloon launched from Sanriku(39°N, 142°E), Japan on 9 September 1997. The O(3P) density was measured by in situ resonance fluorescence technique and O3 by solar UV differential absorption method. The O(3P) to O3 ratios obtained in this measurement were approximately consistent with calculated ones, although the large uncertainties make it difficult to draw a definitive conclusion on the validity of odd oxygen partitioning.
