Abstract :
The signal of global change through greenhouse gas increases, is undoubtedly much larger in the middle atmosphere than at the Earthʹs surface. Yet even this potentially large signal may have only recently become observable at these levels. Only within the past decade have global measurements of suitable accuracy and improved theoretical models given us the opportunity to enhance this important study. In this atmospheric region, composition, photochemistry, energetics, and dynamics are delicately interconnected. Polar Mesospheric Clouds (Noctilucent Clouds), which are sensitive to all of these factors may well be the clearest signal of global change tied to the greenhouse gas build up.
