The kriging method of TEC instantaneous mapping Original Research Article

The spatial variations of total electron content (TEC) over the European area for single epochs are examined using a so-called instantaneous mapping procedure applied to simultaneous data collected from a limited number of measuring stations. The method of map generation is explained involving an application of the kriging technique and construction of the associated semi-variogram. Examples of maps thereby produced are presented for magnetically quiet and disturbed days and their spatial structures are discussed in terms of the prevailing helio-geophysical conditions.
