Abstract
A new and simple form of artificial viscosity is proposed to eliminate directional dependence. Coupled with the CIP method [Comput. Phys. Commun. 66 (1991) 219, 233; J. Comput. Phys. 70 (1987) 355] which is known to be able to treat all phases of matter together, the propagation of shock waves through multiphase material has been accurately calculated without fictitious pressure pulse at the phase boundary which is often seen in the conservative Euler scheme. Although the present formulation employs the primitive Euler scheme by the CIP, it has accurately captured weak and strong shock waves in multidimensions ensuring the conservative property with the improved artificial viscosity of the .
