Abstract
The Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method is applied to the study of several properties of a freely evolving dilute gas of smooth inelastic hard particles. The velocity distribution of a homogeneous system is shown to present an exponential tail. The stability of this state is also investigated. The results are compared with theoretical results from the Boltzmann equation and a good agreement is found.
